Four Year College Will Cost More Than my HOUSE!

My Daughter came home the other day and had an envelope in her hand. It seems that she qualifies to be in the National Honors society. Needless to say Her Dad and I are thrilled.

She also had in her possession a booklet of all the colleges that will be represented on College night at her school really soon.

I flipped through the book and this is what I saw under Tuition and room and board for the
2014-15 year

Tuition & Fees (all students):$40,670
Room & Board (freshmen)*:$14,490
TOTAL:$55,160

                         $55,160     FOR ONE YEAR!

What The Frig!!! This is not even an Ivy league school!....ok, now I have to check the tuition of other Schools...I'll be right back.

Talk amongst yourselves...

  Here's a topic...The Partridge Family was neither Partridges or a family...discuss.

Ok, I'm back.

  1. Unbelievable!!! Gone are the days when a kid could work his way through college. What will you do? Take out a giant loan?

    1. Hi Ginny, She is a good student so we are hoping for some scholarships. Other than that we are still trying to figure it out...we starting saving for her education before she was born but it's still so overwhelming!

  3. If there is a junior college nearby where the credits will transfer to a university in two years, it might be an option for saving money. I know most kids hate the idea of still living at home, but a family can save thousands.

    1. Yes, we are thinking about all our options...that idea being one of them.

  4. I like your plan shown in the cartoon, giggle. I read that the most expensive colleges often give huge scholarships and can be cheaper than even your public university when the scholarship is counted in. I agree with Rae that junior colleges can have great teaching where the professor actually teaches the class and NOT taught by a teaching assistant like the university where I worked.

  5. Holy cow. My children are both adults and out on their own now. Neither one of them went to college and now I realize that had they wanted to I never would have been able to afford it.

    1. Hi Ann, maybe if I get together with some other friends in the same boat...we could pool our resources...like all live in the same house and sell the others! LOL! Thanks for commenting on my little blog

  7. I feel so fortunate to have gotten through it all when I did and to have "only" had $23,000 or so to pay back in loans. With interest. MEGA interest. It is enough to induce cardiac arrest, just looking at the numbers. Sorry, Joanne.

    1. Hi Robyn, whenever I think of it I start to feel really anxious, but I have faith that we will find a way with God's help of course!

  8. Congrats to your daughter. It really is over whelming. Attending Jr. College at first is a good financial move.
