Pre-School Graduation

It was a great day. My Son was graduating from preschool.

All the kids were wearing white men's shirts...backwards. That way they looked like graduation gowns. On their heads they wore paper graduation caps. They sang songs and smiled when parents and grandparents clapped.

It was a great day.
Only a few months before my Husband came home from a long year in Iraq and we felt so blessed that he was home safe and sound. This day was perfect.

After the songs the teacher handed out the children's home made signs. On these signs (kept secret from the parents) were what they said they wanted to be when they grew up.

The teacher then called out each child's name,  the child would stand and turn the sign around to show what they had chosen.

As you could imagine  one child said he wanted to be a "Policeman"

Another said  they wanted to be a firefighter and turned their sign to reveal a child's drawing of a Firetruck

A little girl wanted to be a doctor, and yet another wanted to be a candy maker. everyone smiled at that one.

The teacher then called my Son's name.

                                                      He stood

And he turned his sign around

In a quiet voice he said...

"I want to be a Dad."

and there on his sign was a stick figure of  a Dad.  There were many that awwwww'd. There were some that became a bit teary eyed. Me included. I turned to look at my Husband and his face was a bit red and he swallowed hard. It took him by surprise.

His son wanted to be just like him....I can think of no greater compliment.
