Hi All!
I am sorry for the lack of posts lately. Last week was crazy and this past weekend we went on our first REAL camping trip. I write "real" because this time we were in a tent instead of the comfy cottage that we always rent.
our cool tent
Oh and did I mention it was my birthday weekend? I did? Oh well, one more time won't kill anyone.
It was my birthday weekend
Soooo, we set up the tent in record time...(24 minutes), and our screened-in eating and cooking area was a God send because at night all sorts of bugs (that I have only seen in nature shows) came out to see what all the hub bub was about.
Our 4 star restaurant
Our camp site was high up the mountain and we had a great view.
The one thing that was a bit freaky was that there were no other "tenters" near us (I don't know if that is even a word). Down the hill there were a few others but they were from us. During the day It didn't bother me at all. I loved having that whole area to ourselves.
But at night
it was a different story.
Creepy

Vulnerable is the best word I would used to describe how I felt.
I kept envisioning one of these

creepin' up on us...and not to mention the volume of the chirping crickets and the owls hooting made sleeping a bit hard....but sleep we did all cozy and safe in our little home away from home. Well, it was all comfy cozy until....
Lets just say someone in our little group didn't tighten the cap on their air mattress.
Let's try and guess who that someone was... shall we?

Sometime during the night the heaviest part of my body...my butt, was slowly introduced to the cold hard rocky ground.
Ehh, It's better than being attacked by Sasquatch.
Oh, the downsides to camping. It seems you captured them well. I can't do the sleep on a blowup mattress on the ground thing anymore. I bet you had fun. I miss camping. My husband doesn't camp. He likes expensive hotels for an occasional get away. This isn't always a bad thing, but I do miss camping.
ReplyDeleteWe did have fun...and we laughed a lot!
DeleteI don't think I've ever been camping for real. I'm glad you all had a great time.
ReplyDeleteMa, I think you would do great on a camping trip...you have lots of little helpers!!! :O)
DeleteThe whole trip sounds like fun! Happy belated birthday!!
ReplyDeleteThank You Beth!
Deletei've never been camping but this makes me want to give it a try one day got work up the nerve
ReplyDeleteHi Becca, I was really all set to just hate it , but quite frankly I had fun.
DeleteHappy belated birthday to you...not the way I would want to spend MY birthday but hey....
ReplyDeleteIt was an adventure!
DeleteWhy did that make me laugh? I am like you and not much of a camper. I too worry about the animals and creepy things. I guess you just have to look past all of those things and enjoy the rest. It sounds like a nice way to spend your birthday.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb, these silly things that happen are always funny afterward. Thats what makes them great memories that we like to re-tell over and over again!
DeleteCamping you can have that I do not like camping no way no how...........
ReplyDeleteYou'd love it if you went with us! We ALWAYS have an adventure wherever we go.
DeleteLove camping and I also have stories of flat air mattresses.
ReplyDeleteNow I want to dig out the tent..
Maybe I should not have bought the cheapest air mattress at walmart!
DeleteA belated happy birthday to you! What a fun way to celebrate your birthday :) Your post is funny and full of adventure at the same time. You really had a great time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it ain't over yet wait 'til the next post!
DeleteOh, I feel ya! That's why I refuse to go real camping anymore! Hope you had a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rae, and yes I did!
DeleteGirl you are a freaking trooper! I so would end up with the lump bumpy air mattress sleeping on rocks! YUP!
ReplyDeleteYou really impress me I'm bowing down I would never go! I'd let the boys go and drive up in the am and then drive home at night .. lol
Roughin it for your birthday, what a trooper! I love the outdoors and picked going for a hike for my birthday last year. What's wrong with us? We should be choosing a 4 star restuarant. Oh, I forgot you did have one. Our canyon is so over run with people anymore that you would NEVER be the lone camper. It does get a bit scary at night. Happy Birthday!
