Well its looks like I'm kind of stuck on a sleep theme this week; ( or lack there of ) been having a bout of insomnia lately. So today is Wednesday and it's time for some fashion....hmmmm but how to fit the theme in here ....got it!
At My Bridal shower my Mom gave me a Peignoir set. It was gorgeous. It had beautiful delicate lace and was very long. It reminded me of something you'd see in one of those cool 40's films. This picture here looks exactly like the one my Mom gave me. I wore it on my wedding night and maybe a few times after that but then it was put away. You see I'm a man's t-shirt and cotton shorts kind of girl. If I wear jammies they are usually lightweight cotton and roomy!
Remember the Engalls Girls? They wore long gowns and I always wondered why they wore those bonnets to sleep...turns out that people then wore them to keep out lice and to contain very long hair .
This is Audrey Hepburn in a scene from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Her "night gown" is a man's tuxedo shirt.
Sewing pattern for a Peignoir set from the 50's. The pink one looks like something women might have worn out.
Lucy and Ricky wore matching PJ's on their show...I wonder if they did in real life?
Baby dolls were very popular in the 60's
So which one do you like the most? I have to admit that on any giving day I am wearing one of my husband T-shirts...( they are so comfy!) The footsie pajamas are too confining...I can't stand having hot feet when I am sleeping.
Lanz the company that makes this nightgown has been around for 60 years. Their gowns are comfy and great for those cold winter nights.
Do these footsie PJ's make you feel comfy cozy?
How about a bit of silk?
or are you a tshirt and boxers kind of person?
how about just a regular slip nightie?
And for the guys... Do you like the the footsie onesie look?
The classic looking PJ's?
Do you like to match the Mrs.?
or is the Scrooge look more to your liking?
Its is very late and so I am going to try and catch some ZZZZZ's. Have a great Wednesday!
I did not know this info about gowns, etc. I wear long silky nighties, I need the silk to turn over in bed easily....weird I know but I like them.
ReplyDeleteFootie jammies were always too hot when I was a kid. Why did they have plastic on the bottom? So gross. I'm sure they're better now, but I haven't tried. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like a silk short gown. Like Kim said, makes it easier to turn over in bed.
ReplyDeleteGosh, you've really got it ALL covered (pun intended). I used to wear baby dolls when I was younger, they are so cute. I think the silk P.J.'s are very pretty, but never wore any. I have always worn a sleeveless short silky nightgown, probably the ONLY thing you don't have here!! Well, probably because it is so boring.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it depends on what time of the year it is. In summer I like silkie gowns and in the winter I like warm, long sleeve PJ's.
ReplyDeleteI love those pretty nighty thingys, but I'm a t-shirt gal. As others have said, it's all about being about to turn over without become all twisty!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! It's going to be incredibly helpful as I choose what to wear for the SCBWI Conference's Saturday Ball where the theme is pajama party. :P

I don't like being confined by clothing when I sleep. I usually will sleep shirtless unless it's really cold and then I'll opt for a oversize T-shirt.

Tossing It Out
I wear a night gown as does my mother and one of my sisters the others like pants or shorts. I use to ahve a night gown like the American girl Smanatha which was fun. We make our own nkightgowns, and Pj's. Or should I say my mother and sisters do.
ReplyDeleteCome and see my blog giveaway!
I just watched the movie, Gidget and wanted to go out and buy Baby doll pjs! They looked SO cute...and I remember how cool they were! Fun post! ♥ And thanks for your sweet comment this morning! ♥
