I often think I was born in the wrong era because I just love old fashion. That being said as the days get a bit longer and the temps climb a bit higher I start to think about....Bathing suits. I was lucky enough in my teens and early twenties to have a cute little figure and could wear just about any kind of bathing suit. Happily in love, married, two children and 30 plus pounds later I resolve myself to devote days and days to searching for that suit that will make me feel less self conscience than I already am.
In recent years I have purchased tankini sort of suits with a little skirt attached. Even with this amount of coverage the top part always manages to roll up and the bottoms roll in the opposite direction. This calls for several minutes of adjusting every time I exit a pool. It is my own fault; after I had my 9 pounds 4 ounce baby I should have worked on the excess weight, but stretch marks and flab pretended to be my pals because they whispered in my ear..."Don't worry about it Jo, you can start that diet tomorrow....eat that cookie!"
Traitors! I'm at fault for sure. I have decided to try to lose a bit of weight, but lets face it if history proves anything chances are that I will not be in tip top shape by summer...Anyways......I decided to do a bit of research and found a few pictures of older styles that might interest you. enjoy
This 1920's style suit must have been scandalous! Look at all that leg it must have shown!
These suits then cost less than a cup of coffee today. They are from a 1930's mail order catalog. I like the style, but they were made from wool worsted material, in essence just like a sweater! ugh!
The 1940's style. I love the two suits on either end. I wish they would bring this style back
1950's. Did everyone have a cute little waist or did bathing suits have girdles sewn into them? Their whittled waists make me a bit suspicious. Now viewing all these styles I have come to the conclusion that there is only one style that I will feel comfortable in.....
Yep That's the one! Diet be GONE...This has full coverage, no chance of wardrobe malfunctions and no need for a Brazilian bikini wax. I might get heat stroke but that's the price I'll pay to keep eating my ding dongs! Surf's up!
Wear the last suit and eat the Ding-Dongs!! I'll toast to you with a double thick shake!! I think the small waisted women are wearing rubber suits!! The whole thing was like a girdle, I used to wear one and it took me all day to squeeze in it! Thanks for visiting my blog, your blog is smart and funny!! I happened to see the book "The Tallest Of Smalls" below and I clicked on it because we have it. The story about your children, wow! You have taught them well, they are caring and generous.

ReplyDeleteLast time we went to the lake, there was certainly a lot of fashion "don'ts" I wish these would make a comeback.

ReplyDelete@Becca~ Mee too! I am so ready for swimming and cherry slushies!
@Ma~I hear ya about the fashion don'ts! My bathing suits are done. I have to buy new ones this year. ugh!
Good Morning Jo, I well remember the bathing suits of the 50s. I was young, thin and beautiful then. LOL Now I don't even look at the bathing suits. I say, eat what you want within moderation and buy the bathing suit you like no matter what. Life has a way of getting away from us. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cute post. I usually wear a wrap over my bathing suit until I get in the water. I agree with Ginny. Have what you want in moderation and enjoy your life.
ReplyDelete@Beth~ Thanks Beth! Will do!
ReplyDelete@Barb~Thanks Barb~ Moderation is foreign to me~hence the extra pounds, but I am trying. Thanks for commenting. visit again soon!
