A to Z 2012~~~I is for my Ultimate Pregnancy Craving

Now looking at the letter of the day I bet you are going to think that my craving was ice cream...

                                              NOPE.

I have heard of just about every weird craving out there.. My mom craved raw rice and pickles when pregnant with me...enough said.

My friends craved everything from cheese cake from a particular bakery in Manhattan... to french fries from Nathans in Coney Island.

I knew someone who munched on coffee grounds and another who ate a pint of ice cream every night!

Can you guess what my craving was? Not Yet?

It was ICE. I craved it all the time. Just crunching on it fulfilled some craving the way no other food would.

My mouth would water whenever I saw someone with a fountain drink and if they started to crunch the ice at the end well that sent me running to the nearest food place for a cup of that desired ice.

My Husband thought himself lucky that he wasn't sent running anywhere for a craved food. All I had to do was go to the fridge and voila!... there was enough ice to quell my craving....now there was one time (it was 1:00 am)that I begged him to go to our local diner for some cheese cake....

It wasn't really a pregnancy craving; I saw cheese cake on a TV show and it made me want cake, but shhh don't tell him that!

Did you have weird cravings when you were pregnant?

  1. That's funny! It actually gives me goose bumps all over--the sound of crunching ice makes my head go crazy. ;-) But yep, your husband was blessed that he didn't have to search far and wide to calm your craving. I had no such cravings myself.

  3. I don't have a weird craving that's been with me the whole time I've been preggo. But sometime in the 2nd trimester I remember eating pickles with ice cream and thinking it was all I needed in this life.

  4. I started out craving pizza and coke, moved on into Big Ten ice cream bars and finished off with Sweet Marie chocolate bars. As a matter of fact, I was seven days late and standing in the variety store clutching a handfull of Sweet Marie bars.

  5. Were you anemic at the time? The only time I crave ice is when I am anemic. I should know what is going on with my body the minute I start craving ice.

When I was pregnant, which I was five times, I craved sauerkraut with my first born, avocados and cashew nuts with my second born, and I don't remember any food cravings with the others. I think by then, I just craved sleep.

  17. I think I had pretty typical cravings--cucumbers, BLTs, anything spicy. But with my oldest, I did have a weird craving for the color orange. I was obsessed with it. I even wanted to paint the nursery orange (thankfully hubby talked me out of it).

My mother craved pizza with peanut butter on it when she was preggo with me. Now she can't stand either of those!

  19. Big Macs from McDonalds. Gained 7 lbs. in one month from them. Haven't eaten one for 20+ years, since the son who caused the craving was born. I don't think I've walked IN a McD's or even driven thru for food more than a handful of times since then...cravings are crazy! Fun memories.
