Saturday's Question...to be or not to be a bridesmaid

OK...here's the situation. Your friend "Pam" is finally getting married. She has asked you and your other friend Mary (who lives out of town) to be her only two bridesmaids.  Mary lives far away and will not be able to see the dress until just a day or so before the wedding. These are the choices "Pam"
fell in love with.

You know Mary will not hesitate to cancel her traveling plans  (due to some mysterious phony illness) if she even had  an inkling the dress is hideous. You don't want to walk down the aisle as the lone tacky bridesmaid. Do you warn Mary of the ugly frock or keep your mouth shut and hope for misery loves company as you both walk down the aisle?

  1. Sorry to say but those are some hideous looking dresses. Hopefully the bride will change her mind. I would shut my mouth. I would want the company.

  2. What to do??? I would probally tell my friend that I did not feel comfortable in the styles she chose because they would not be flattering in me. I would let her know that I like her cheerfull choice of colours but would prefer a simple style of dress so i could were it again. As for the friend It would depend on how well i knew her?? I let my bridemaids pick out there own dresses, I just told them the colour i liked, actually my mother in law did most of the work as they were all her daughters. MY sister did not want to be in the party.

  3. I would not say anything because the bride should make the choice.

  4. I would just wear what she picked out and smile. I would also hope that those in attendance knew I didn't pick out the hideous thing I was wearing.

  5. @ Cindy Caudle/ Looking Glass Miniatures/Beth/ Retired English Teacher...Hi Everyone! You guys are great friends! Well I also ask myself would I warn my friend "Mary" of the hideous dress she was about to wear... chances are that I probably would but would encourage her to attend anyway.(ok threaten her with black mail!!!)LOL Speaking from personal experience...I have worn pretty ugly dresses (Day Glow Pink with ruffles) and its always nice when the bride allows input from her friends. Thank God most of those bridemaid's years are behind me!!! My best friend is un-married and if she has a wedding one day I would gladly wear day glow pink for her.......for sure......I think......Ok......I......will..(man that was hard!) Have an Awesome Weekend!!! Blessings, Joanne

  7. Yike, those are some ugly dresses! I would suggest to her that a bridesmaid or matron if you're married should dress age appropriate, and there are some stunning dresses available. Lord and Taylor has the most beautiful gowns! Check 'em out!

  8. Lord a mercy!! Whether you like the dress or not you should wear it and be happy you had a friend that thought enough of you to even ask. I've been a maid of honor twice and while both outfits were tasteful I wouldn't dream of turning down the "job" just because the bride wanted to look better than the people standing next to her. BTW-That's my opinion on hideous bridesmaids dresses... the bride is insecure and doesn't want anyone to look better than her. I'm sure I will feel the same way if I ever get married but I will have the decency to ask my bridesmaids opinions of attire!!! Hope you have fun!!!

  9. Those are some ugly dresses:)
The best solution would be to talk to the bride. If she isn't a bridezilla, she'll understand:)

  10. Girlie please tell me you are kidding! They can not make dresses like this in this day and age!

I think one needs to have a come to Jesus meeting about dresses. Now to do it with out hurting the brides feelings. But only if she is a good friend that wouldn't want their friend to be forever in their pictures looking horrible.

I would have to warn my friend, but really that is so not cool to put your friends in a dress from the 80's. I sat down with my girls and we picked it out together.

  11. @ Becca~ It was just a hypothetical situation but I have had to wear some horrendous dresses in my past.

@ Ocean Breezes and Country Sneezes~ Thanks for your comment. I am glad those days are behind me!

@ Lena~ Great suggestion. Thanks for your comment

@Alexis~ LOL! Nope thankfully I am not in that situation~ I was talking to a friend and we were talking about our experiences with bride maids dresses and I thought it would make a great post question.
