A while ago a familiar song came on the radio while I drove my children here and there. It was "Bounce Rock Skate Roll" by VAUGHAN MASON & CREW
I cranked up the volume and shouted "OOOOO this is a great song!!!
"People danced to this while on roller skates wearing the coolest outfits ever!" I shouted.
source
OK it was cool then
I sang along to the song and told them about the first time I ever put a Walkman to my ear.
source
It was the ultimate......hearing the music blasting in your ears in stereo! and there was always someone who had it up so loud you could hear there song a mile away! not too annoying right?
source
remember stage light make up? it always made us look so natural
source
So as I sang loudly in the car, my kids were so amazed at what such a cool song it was
source
And they wanted to hear more
source
But alas as soon as it was getting good the song ended.
The kids were disappointed
source
But in my head I still had it playing... so when I got home I went on You tube and found this video of the song and a clip from the roller disco movie "Roller Boogie" I was SHOCKED! Where was the coolness? the awesome dancing? the fantastic style? see for yourself...
WARNING: IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU NOT WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO
IT WILL CAUSE NAUSEA AND SEVERE VOMITING WHEN YOU SEE THE HORRENDOUS STYLES AND DANCING......(and the realization that we actually wore those clothes akkkkkkk!!!!) DISCO DIDN'T DIE IT WAS KILLED BY A PAIR OF SKATES! Though I have to admit I would have liked to have tried it just once ;o)
Did this song bring back memories? Did you roller disco?

I was a little too late for the roller disco. I was just a wee one when it was popular, but I did love disco music...
ReplyDelete(still do)
I have never learnt how to roller skate and think if I tried I would fall on my bum or face and make everyone else crack up with laughter.
ReplyDeleteYou are TOO funny today!!! No, the roller disco was a bit before my time, but I remember some on T.V. When I was a kid, I skated with four wheel skates that had a skate key and you fit them to your saddle shoes! I went to the top of the hill and came flying down with my pigtails flying out behind me a mile a minute. It's a wonder I wasn't killed!
ReplyDeleteThat walkman brought back memories of my first. I thought I was so cool! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! It's impossible to make it through the entire video. I did really like that one girls outfit, with the golden sparkling legs and black leotard. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post!! THANKS!!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness how freaking fun, some a few years before me but oh yes so much fun! LOVED the song!!!
