RVing Brady Bunch Style

When I was young I loved watching the Brady bunch. I thought their house was cool though I couldn't get over the fact that Mike was an architect and yet couldn't expand the house to fit a couple more bedrooms for the kids. And what was the deal with Carol? She didn't work but yet had a live-in maid to help with the house? OK OK I digress. The one episode that I loved was when they went to the Grand Canyon. They hitched a pop up camper to their huge car and off they went. Ever since then I have always been fascinated with these...

No not exactly those from the show ...more like these.------->

My neighbors down the street have a HUMONGOUS one that they keep in their driveway (completely blocking the view of both neighbors on either side of them). Every year they take a few trips and every year when they return they can be heard for miles it seems arguing on how to maneuver the giant house on wheels back into the driveway.

Every time we go "camping" I look at alot of the RVers and their RVs are unbelievable. There are some that you can rent and I think that we might just try it. How about you? have you ever traveled in one of these or even own one of these? Was/is the experience a good one?

  1. Lately Hubby has been talking about selling everything and traveling the U.S. in an rv. After seeing the pictures, it might not be a bad idea!!

  2. I have a niece from Florida that spends the summer months traveling around the USA with her husband in their RV. Just about time for a surprise visit from them again. :-)

  3. When I left my husband I took my 2 boys and we lived in a pop up camper in the State Park for one summer. We made it fun. But I would rather have had one of those fancy rv's with a/c.

  4. That is a dream of mine: buy an RV and travel the country. My husband will never go for it.

  5. We don't travel and never have. But I will say that many of these are now bigger than our little ranch house! No kidding!! You could live in them permanently! Or they would make an excellent guest house!

  6. I know a few people who have either an RV or a 5th wheel. They all seems to enjoy them. My husband and I looked at some at an RV show and even though they are really nice we agreed that it is not for us. We don't have the space at home for it and it seems like a lot of work. Those airstream silver bullets are pretty expensive.

  7. I always thought those same thoughts about The Brady Bunch too...

I want a live in maid!

O but wait, there were 6 kids AND a dog. No dog here, I guess I'm on my own:P

  8. Whoa, that bus is pretty darn nice. It would be cool to just live in it and travel all of the time.

  9. My parents and my in-laws own RVS - not that huge! So we've been priveledged with the use of both, without the ownership part. My husband is a general fix-it kind of guy so he definitely has done a share of maintenance on both the rigs. He is loved by bugs - he proved it to me on a hiking trip while we were dating - I've never seen bugs chase someone like they chased my husband up and down the trail - so he loves RV "camping" and I've grown spoiled by it. However, they are a lot of work to pack, upkeep, and clean out at the end of the road. A tent, a few sleeping bags, and basic camp kit stored in a plastic bin is quite a bit easier for a quick road trip. However, with my husband along - the bug spray has to be super-sized.

  10. Oh . . . and a live-in-maid? Well, sometimes I wish I could just wave my hands and have the house clean itself, but I wouldn't want another person having to clean up my messes - too embarassing.
